Gold fell in New York as the US dollar strengthened against the euro, eroding the appeal of the metal as an alternative investment. Silver also declined. The US dollar gained as much as 0.7% against the euro after losing almost that amount in the previous two days. Gold generally moves in tandem with the euro as an alternative to the US currency.
