International financial markets have again recorded serious losses. In Japan, the Nikkei index lost 6.4 percent to close at its lowest level in 26 years. Hong Kong lost 12.7 percent in its biggest single-day drop since 1991. The East Asian economies are especially vulnerable because of their strong dependency on exports.
