Emphasys Medical Inc., which developed a medical device to treat emphysema, has canceled its plans for an initial public offering, citing market conditions, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Monday. In September 2007 when Emphasys filed for the IPO, the company estimated that the offering price could total up to $86.3 million. The same month, Emphasys filed for premarket approval of its first product, the Emphasys endobronchial valve.

When Eos Airlines Inc. launched its first flights in 2005, the startup carrier named for a Greek goddess came with enthusiastic business travelers looking for more space who didn't mind hefty fares for premium service across the Atlantic. The airline reconfigured Boeing 757s meant for 220 passengers with 48 seats that could extend into a fully flat bed. Flights served wine, champagne, cocktails and gourmet foods. There were individual DVD players, and helicopter rides to the airport were offered to some travelers. The price for the New York to London flights, which it offered twice a day, ranged from $3,500 to $9,000 roundtrip.

Chinese and European Union leaders launched a high-level dialogue Friday on tensions over China's swelling trade surplus with Europe amid friction about Tibet. "Our meeting today marks a significant step towards the strengthening of the strategic partnership between China and Europe," European Commission President Manuel Barroso told Premier Wen Jiabao as they met in the Great Hall of the People, the seat of China's legislature. The 27-nation EU is stepping up pressure on Beijing for action over its trade surplus, market barriers and currency controls -- areas where Washington long took the lead.

Online auction company eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) owns just over 28% of classifieds company Craigslist. eBay bought in during 2004. Now, eBay is suing Craigslist and its management for diluting its share in Craigslist, something it contends the classified company can not do. "The recent actions by the Craigslist directors have disadvantaged eBay and its investment in Craigslist," Michael Jacobson, eBay's senior vice president and general counsel according to The New York Times. All of this is a great mystery. eBay has not said what it paid for its stake.

The mobile banking segment in the country is set to receive a big boost following the decision of State Bank of India (SBI) to roll-out its mobile banking service within a month. The public sector lender is understood to have finalised a technology partner to take the service to its nearly 1 crore customers pan-India, a senior bank official told PTI here today. SBI will join a handful of banking majors including Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays, Union Bank and Yes Bank, who are already active in this space. "The technology platform is ready for the launch of the mobile banking service.

Special prosecutors have summoned Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee for a second round of questioning, an official said Thursday, as a probe into alleged corruption at South Korea's largest business conglomerate nears an end. Lee has been called to appear Friday afternoon at the office of the independent counsel conducting the investigation, said an official at the office, refusing to give her name. Yonhap news agency earlier quoted Yun Jung-sok, a senior prosecutor, as saying Lee would be summoned. "That's how we understand it," Samsung Group spokesman Yim Jun-seok said in response to a call seeking confirmation. He had no further comment.
